
Middle School Mathematics Tutoring
Middle school is where mathematical confidence is built or lost. Think-Nth matches grade 6–8 students with tutors who rebuild foundations before the gaps reach algebra.
The only stage where we deliberately slow down: we rebuild number sense before Algebra I starts assuming it.
Where middle school mathematics actually breaks
A student can execute a fraction procedure correctly and still not be able to say whether 7/8 + 4/5 is closer to 1 or to 2. That is not a computation problem — it is a missing sense of size, and it stays hidden while numbers are on the page to look at.
It becomes visible in algebra, where the numbers disappear. A student who never estimated is the same student who writes x = 14 for 2x + 6 = 20 and has no instinct that something is wrong. So we teach fractions, ratio and proportional reasoning as one connected idea about scaling, and we ask for an estimate before the method every time.
