How to Study for Digital SAT Math: A 6-Week Plan
A six-week digital SAT Math study structure built around diagnosis, targeted skill work, Bluebook practice and error analysis — updated for the current digital format.

Most students prep for SAT Math the same way: buy a thick book, do random problems, feel busy, and change very little. A better structure diagnoses first, drills weaknesses second, and only takes full-length tests near the end.
Here is a six-week structure designed to help students strengthen weak areas, improve pacing, and approach SAT Math more strategically. It assumes about 5 hours per week (roughly 45 minutes a day).
What the digital SAT Math looks like now: two adaptive Math modules, taken in Bluebook, with a calculator permitted throughout — either your own approved calculator or the built-in Desmos graphing calculator. There is no separate no-calculator section. Module 2 difficulty adapts to how you performed in Module 1.
Week 1 — Diagnose, don''t study
Take one full, timed Bluebook practice Math section under real conditions. No music, no phone, no pausing. Official College Board material only.
Then label every question you missed or guessed on with why:
- Content gap — you didn''t know the concept (exponent rules, circle theorems, functions).
- Careless error — you knew it but slipped.
- Time pressure — you would have got it with 30 more seconds.
- Trap — the wording misdirected you.
This list is your study plan. If most of your misses are careless, more content videos will not help; a pacing and checking routine will.
Week 2 — Fix the biggest content gap
Pick the single most common content gap (usually linear equations, systems, exponents and radicals, functions, quadratics, ratios/percentages, or geometry and trigonometry basics).
- 20 min reviewing the concept.
- 30 min on 10–15 targeted problems.
- Redo every miss the next day until it is automatic.
Rule: don''t move on until you can solve 8/10 of that topic correctly, quickly.
Week 3 — Second gap, plus pacing and Desmos
Same structure for your next weakest topic, then add one pacing drill: 15 questions in 20 minutes. The goal is building an internal clock.
Spend one session learning the built-in Desmos calculator properly. Practise the moves that save real time:
- Graphing both sides of an equation and reading intersections
- Solving systems visually
- Using sliders to test a parameter
- Finding zeros, vertices and intercepts directly
Knowing when not to open the calculator matters just as much — for many algebra questions, reaching for it is slower.
If a question takes more than about 90 seconds, mark it and move on. Learning to skip is a skill.
Week 4 — Attack careless errors
Build a personal error log: one line per careless miss — the question, what went wrong, and the rule that would have caught it.
- "Distributed the negative to only the first term. Rule: box the minus sign before distributing."
- "Solved for x when it asked for 2x. Rule: underline what the question is actually asking."
Read the log for five minutes before every practice session.
Week 5 — Full modules under real conditions
Do two full timed Math modules this week in Bluebook, back-to-back so you experience the adaptive second module. After each one: score it, review every miss with your Week 1 labels, and update the error log.
Because Module 1 determines the difficulty of Module 2, accuracy early in the test matters. Slow down slightly on the opening questions rather than racing.
Week 6 — Two full practice tests, then taper
- Days 1–2: Full official Bluebook practice test. Full review.
- Days 3–4: Second full practice test. Full review.
- Days 5–6: Light review only — reread the error log, redo your most-missed problem types.
- Day 7: No math. Sleep. Check your device, charger, ID and admission ticket.
Five rules that matter more than the plan
- Use official Bluebook material for full tests. Third-party tests miscalibrate difficulty.
- Review every miss the same day. An unreviewed miss is a miss you will repeat.
- Time yourself from Week 1. Untimed practice builds untimed skills.
- Skip strategically. Two accessible questions are worth more than one you may not finish.
- Sleep before the test. Fatigue shows up first as careless errors.
If you plateau
A plateau is usually not a content problem — it is pacing, checking, or test anxiety. That is where working with an educator helps, because someone needs to watch how you solve, not only what you got wrong.
